SUMMARY

What I worked on

Image 1

SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud

In collaboration with developers and product managers, the main project I was focused on was implementing a feature to help users access support and help documentation more efficiently, as well as working to update existing designs to SAP’s new design system.

Promoting accessibility in design

Additionally, I contributed to a repository of annotated components designed for keyboard navigation to optimize accessible design considerations for designers as I was involved in fostering awareness for A11Y, an accessible design initiative to colleagues.

Other things I did!

Created a mini mural for BTP Design

I got the chance to design and put up a mural for my design team’s space at the SAP Canada office.

While I’m not able to disclose the details and specifics of every single project I’ve worked on due to my NDA, feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to talk about my process through a call or chat.

REFLECTION

What I Learned!

01

#Confidence #Is #Key

Working at SAP has helped me grow my independence and confidence as a designer immensely. As SAP is a large company, I would have to take initiative to reach out to different people in the organization if I needed something. I’ve also learned to advocate for my work and be able to speak up and respond to suggestions for my designs. While being able to take feedback is important, simply saying yes to everything isn’t the best practice either. I’m forever thankful to have such a supportive team and manager that created opportunities for me to be able to give presentations, build prototypes and work with different cross-functional teams.

02

Designing for accessibility is more than just considering colour contrasts and legible font sizes

In design school, I was always told to design in a way so that it would be accessible to everyone. To me this looked like using colours that met contrast ratio ratings and using larger font sizes for ease of visibility. While these still are important considerations, I’ve learned more about the best practices for making digital solutions more inclusive for users with disabilities through learning about The A11y Project, which my colleagues and I referred to in order to build a library of annotated components for developer and design teams here at SAP.

I’m super grateful to have had the opportunity to work in such an amazing environment surrounded by wonderful team members at SAP!
